  • If you reside in India or traveling to any destination excluding Myanmar, Nepal, and Bhutan, you are permitted to bring goods valued up to Rs. 50,000. However, if you are an international tourist, you are entitled to carry personal items worth Rs. 15,000

What is the maximum number of phone that can be carried duty-free when flying to India from the USA or any other country?

  • You are usually permitted to bring  one personal mobile phone without incurring customs duties, If you are carrying more than one or two mobile phones you might need to declare it and pay custom duties, these gadgets are only allowed for personal use, not for commercial importation or in excessive quantities.
  • If we talk about laptops, one laptop is permitted duty-free, but if you have two or more, you’ll need to declare them and pay applicable customs duties. The amount of duty payable is depending on the type of device you are carrying.

2. Gifts up to a value of Rs.8,000 approximately $110 USD

3. used electronic items for personal use with a valid invoice and declaration

Restricted Items:

1. New electronic items exceeding Rs.8,000 in value require a commercial invoice and duty payment

2. More than one laptop or phone considered commercial import

3. Used electronic items for personal use with a valid invoice and declaration

Duty and Tax:

1. Basic Customs Duty [BCD]: 10% to 20% of item value

2. integrated Goods and Services Tax [IGST]: 12% to 28% of item value

3. Social Welfare Surcharge : 10% of BCD and IGST

Declaration and Documentation

1. Declare all electronic items at customs

2. Carry a valid invoice, receipt, or packing list

3. fill out the ‘Declaration Form’ available at customs

Is It Allowed To Bring A Brand New, Unopened And Sealed  iPhone From The USA To India?

I am an Indian Resident travelling to Canada and will come back to India after 3 weeks. I have to carry 2 laptops (1 personal, 1 issued by office). How do I notify India Customs while travelling out of India that I will reimport both the laptops.
